    Margaret Schopp

    CPA, MST (Tax)

    Who am I?

I'm Margaret Schopp — a CPA with a Master of Science in Taxation and a member of the American Institute of Certified Tax Coaches. I founded Schopp & Co. and specialize in trust, estate, and gift taxation.

I built The Confident Trustee because I'm the friend people call when their parent dies and they suddenly become trustee. Weekend visits turn into kitchen-table conversations about trusts, tax returns, deadlines, and the very real overwhelm of being handed a job nobody prepared you for. This course is that conversation — for people who need it but don't know me personally.

    What will you learn?

    • How to get an EIN for the trust — and the date-field trap most new trustees fall into
    • What the trust's tax return (Form 1041) is, and how it's different from a personal return
    • Schedule K-1s to your beneficiaries: what they are, when to send them, and what to tell your siblings
    • Why trust tax brackets are "compressed" — and what that means when you make distributions
    • The deadlines you can't miss (and what to do if you already did)
